A Project of the Philippine Coffee Board, Inc. (PCBI) In May 2002, the National Task Force on Coffee Rehabilitation was sworn into office by President Gloria Arroyo. It is a private sector-led group whose goal is to develop and promote the Philippine Coffee Industry through technical assistance and credit programs for coffee farms through certification of coffee farms, millers and roasters and through marketing and promotions of coffee for domestic and export markets. Now known as the Philippine Coffee Board, Inc., the group has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Agriculture last October 2008 for a program called Pilipinas, Gising at Magkape. The goal is increasing local coffee production in order to attain self-sufficiency, by way of rejuvenation and rehabilitation of poorly maintained Robusta and Arabica farms and planting of additional hectares. The program entails formation of regional coffee boards headed by area directors from among the PCB trustees and the execution of the 7-year plan towards self-sufficiency in coffee by 2015. The program areas are divided into five (5) areas: North Luzon, South & Central Luzon, Visayas, Northeastern and Southwestern Mindanao. These areas are headed by the following PCB trustees/directors:
Coffee farmers and potential investors are encouraged to contact these Area Directors should they be interested to be a part of the program and to help the Coffee Board reach its goals.
